    Folk Herbalism

    9Month Course in Folk Herbalism

    2021 Folk Herbalism Course
This is a 9 month course on working with the healing plants for individual and family well-being.

My goal for this course is to take you to a place where you are comfortable using the medicinal herbs for the daily needs of yourself and your family. Folk herbalism was once commonplace among all cultures. People were empowered to work with the healing plants growing all around us for their daily health challenges. We can reclaim that knowledge and that power, and begin once again to cultivate relationship with the healing plants.

The Folk Herbalism Course will offer experience with…
    • herbal medicine making, including teas, tinctures, infused oils, vinegars, salves, creams and more
    • developing your own materia medica (the herbs you know and work with intimately)
    • begin growing a medicinal herb garden to harvest from throughout the season
    • herbal energetics and how taste gives us clues to the medicinal actions of herbs
    • making and using flower essences
    • creating an herbal first aid bag
    • plant communication--the art of opening yourself to the plant spirits
    • herbal formulation--begin to develop your own recipes by combining plants that work together in combination
    • topical uses of herbs

I am also available between classes to answer questions and share information through our private class Facebook page.

If you are ready to take on herbalism and make it a part of your life, I invite you to join us for a journey to empowerment and reconnection. Our ancestors knew how to use the herbs for healing and nourishment. It's time to reclaim that knowledge.

Because we are still living in a pandemic and with social distancing measures still in place, there are two options for registering for the Folk Herbalism course this year.

    Option 1:
You may take this class as a completely online course from the comfort of your home.

If you choose this option, we will meet one Thursday evening a month, from 6 to 8 pm in a live class. The classes will also be recorded for you to watch on your own time. Through these classes, I will be giving you all the information, medicine-making instructions, and stories that I normally give in my live classes. I will also be available between classes both through email and on our class Facebook page to answer your questions and give you feedback on your own medicine-making trials. I've taught this course totally online twice already and have become comfortable with this format of sharing this way.

Dates for the online classes will be...
    March18th
    April 8th
    May 6th
    June 10th
    July 8th
    August 5th
    September 2nd
    October 7th
    November 4th

Tuition for the online course is $450.
A $50 deposit is required when you register, and 4 payments of $100 are due on April 1st, June 1st, August 1st, and October 1st.

If you are ready to jump into the online course and start your journey with me on March 18th, send me an email to nettlejuice@gmail.com to reserve your spot!

    Option 2:
If you are local to the southern Chester County area and are comfortable with meeting with a small group of people outside (with masks for time being) for a couple hours a month, you may take this course as a hybrid course.

For this option we will meet one Saturday a month, from March through to November in addition to the online classes mentioned above. In-person classes will be 2 to 3 hours long, with a short break. These classes will include some discussion, some sharing, and some hands-on working with the plants in the garden, with possibly a couple field trips thrown in. This hybrid option allows me to give you all the information I usually give in my live classes, plus the hands-on experience as well.
This option is limited to 8 people this year so that we can maintain safe social distancing while being together in the garden.

In-person classes will be one Saturday a month, from 11 am to 1 pm (with the chance of running over to 2pm) at my garden in Cochranville, Pa.
    Here are the dates...
    March 20th
    April 10th
    May 8th
    June 12th
    July 10th
    August 7th
    September 4th
    October 9th
    November 6th
The live classes are experiential classes, so please make every effort to make sure your schedule is clear for the above dates before registering. I will do what I can to catch you up if you absolutely must miss a class, but there is no way to re-do these experiences.

In addition, students in the hybrid class will have the opportunity to earn a certificate for their dedication to a course of study in Folk Herbalism by completing an end of course project. But the true achievement is the confidence you will gain in working with the healing plants. They will forever be your allies.

The tuition for the hybrid course is $875. A deposit of $200 will hold your space for the 2021 class. Once classes start, students can make a payment of $75 at each class, or pay $625 in full at the first class for a $50 discount. Class size is limited to 8 students.

Tuition includes handouts and all projects completed in class. However, students may need to purchase additional books and materials to complete projects at home.

If you are ready to reserve your spot in the hybrid Folk Herbalism course, send me an email to nettlejuice@gmail.com.

I am so looking forward to working closely with a great group of future herbalists. I have seen the beauty created when folks come together to form a community around the healing plants.

    Bright Blessings,
    April
NOTE: Availability of in-person classes may change due to changing pandemic circumstances.
